Grey Monday

Its a grey Monday morning as u can seen from the reflection in our aisle way wax rubbing from Thailand. D has a problem with teeth which is turning out to be pretty nasty and so I get to be home today to help out.

The past weekend was a relatively sane one. Me and two friends have been thinking of trying out Paley's place for a long time. It is celebrated restaurant here in Portland. We had pre-booked a table but were a lil bit late due to some shopping we tried to squeeze in pre-dinner. And yet it was a pretty long time before we got our drinks. We were treated to quite a few treats from the chef to compensate for the wait. A nice amuse bouche to start off.. something with beets and goat cheese and many other ingredients which I don't quite recall served on a spoon. The appetizers and drinks were really good, especially the hand cut fries and the aioli.. But the main course was not up to par. My take on this - food that tries too hard to please with an ingredient list that is long for the reasons of length alone

The plan for the weekend was to visit the Clackamas county Master gardeners plant sale at the Canby fairgrounds. We have been going here for the past two years . This time decided to give it a skip due to the impending swine flu scare. So here was a Saturday all for the taking. Had decided to make a dress for myself for a change but the shopping trip mentioned before had turned out fruitful and hence the need was no longer there. But there was time and so it was spent making a top from the Japanese sewing book.

Little M's dance teacher is in India attending to her unwell father so she had no classes over the weekend. More time :)

We needed to head to the airport to validate some mileage tickets, so a shopping trip to Ikea was added on as a bonus. The kids love the Swedish meatballs so that was dinner. Ikea always has something that u want and dont need. We spent quite a long time eating so not much time was left for shopping. Did buy some nice fabric, more bottles for the kitchen, frames for the kids duck stamp pictures, and looked at some of their amazing displays. Another trip is planned for the stuff we missed when D's cousin comes in at the end of the month.

Sunday was all garden work spreading mulch. Some more is left to be done but the garden looks well tended now. Kids made limeade for lunch which we had it with pizza from pizza schmizza. Dinner was a quick shrimp and chicken pilaf in green sauce , a recipe from my friend Rupa. Will update blog with recipe soon since this so easy and tasty to make
